Supporting Land Care and Outdoor Labour on Major NSW Infrastructure Projects with Glascott

During FY26, Green Yakka partnered with Glascott to deliver land care and outdoor labour across two major NSW infrastructure projects: the $715 million Upper South Creek Water Treatment Works at Kemps Creek and the $438 million Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment.

Both projects were delivered under head contractor John Holland. Green Yakka supplied labour-ready teams for physically demanding site work, while managing workforce planning, recruitment, training, inductions, site safety and ongoing worker support. This helped Glascott meet its project requirements while creating paid work, skills development and experience for people experiencing barriers to employment.

“The projects created more than 100 shifts for 15 of our workers from refugee backgrounds, primarily from the Congolese and Kareni communities,” says Robert Dale, Green Yakka Operations Manager. “For our team, that meant paid work, experience on major infrastructure sites and the opportunity to build skills that can lead to future employment.”

Upper South Creek Water Treatment Works

At Upper South Creek, Glascott was engaged to deliver land care across the riparian corridor and an eight-hectare vegetation area surrounding Sydney Water’s Advanced Water Recycling Centre.

Green Yakka provided land care teams to:

  • Deliver Glascott’s vegetation management scope.
  • Control weed growth and maintain vegetation areas throughout construction.
  • Contribute to the establishment and ongoing management of landscaped areas surrounding the facility.
  • Support a project that will increase water recycling capacity in Sydney’s south-west and help protect local waterways.

Planning Together for Better Project and Employment Outcomes

Early planning between Green Yakka and Glascott helped identify workforce requirements, prepare workers for the sites and build teams with the right mix of skills and support.

“Major construction projects have strict safety requirements and detailed induction processes. Some of our workers are new to Australia or haven’t worked in this type of environment before, so we spend time making sure they understand the work, the site requirements and how to work safely,” Rob says. “Our people are hard workers who are eager for the opportunity to contribute and be part of a team. With the right preparation and support, they can step onto site ready to deliver great results on the job”.

David Banasiak, Estimating Manager and Callum Kelly, Project Manager, Glascott, said: “Green Yakka has been a valuable partner on these projects, supporting delivery while creating meaningful employment pathways. It’s a strong example of how social procurement can contribute to both project outcomes and lasting community impact.”

The projects were part of a busy FY26 for Green Yakka labour hire. We provided 126 employment opportunities, with 84.9% of employees experiencing barriers to work; delivered 4,535 shifts; and recorded 358 training and development outcomes.
