Aboriginal Organisation

Jack Beetson - Community Resources Board Director

GOAL ONE

Aboriginal Organisation: Aboriginal Leadership, Governance & Accountability

In FY26, Community Resources reached one of the most significant goals we’ve been working towards across successive strategic plans: becoming an Aboriginal-led organisation. This milestone reflects our history, our purpose and a long-term commitment to returning to our roots.

By embedding Aboriginal ways of being and working, we strengthen our connection to Country and ensure our services are shaped by the communities we support, creating outcomes that are more relevant, culturally safe and responsive to local needs.

Becoming Aboriginal-led is not the end of a journey. It’s a responsibility. As we move into our next strategic period, we remain focused on strengthening Aboriginal leadership and ensuring culture, community and Country remain at the centre of our work and future direction.

Board Director Profile: Professor Jack Beetson

A proud Ngemba man, Jack Beetson joined the Community Resources Board as Director in March 2026. Over more than 30 years, he has worked across Aboriginal education, literacy, community development and human rights, including his current role as Executive Director of the Literacy for Life Foundation.

He says people have often asked, ‘How did you get to where you are now’? He tells us the abbreviated story:
  • Creating more opportunities for Aboriginal leadership and cultural practice
  • Building deeper partnerships with Elders, Aboriginal organisations and staff
  • Tracking progress so we know we’re making a difference
  • Continuing to grow cultural awareness and learning for everyone in our organisation

Our goal is for every site, service and team member – as well as our partners and clients – to feel part of this journey.

By embedding Aboriginal ways of being in all we do, we create stronger connections and more inclusive workplaces. Together we can build a future where culture is celebrated and caring for Country is second nature.
