Financial Health: Building towards greater impact

As one of Australia’s leading social enterprises, we take our responsibility for financial stewardship seriously. Strong financial health is not an end in itself. It is what enables us to create jobs, support communities, heal Country and continue delivering impact for generations to come.

For more than 40 years, Community Resources has balanced purpose with performance. As we prepared to develop our FY27-FY29 three-year strategic plan, we knew that robust financial sustainability remains essential to delivering on our growth ambitions and ensuring we remain a strong, resilient organisation well into the future.

In FY26, we continued to strengthen our financial discipline, building on investments made in systems, reporting and governance in previous years. These efforts contributed to a net profit of $688,000, providing a strong platform for future growth and investment.

A key focus was improving our budgeting and financial planning processes. Enhanced reporting, regular oversight from the Community Resources Compliance, Audit, Risk and Finance (CARF) Committee, and greater visibility of financial performance against budget supported more informed and timely decision-making across the organisation.

Our newly established centralised business development team collaborated to strengthen customer relationships, leveraged our CRM system, improved pricing analysis and secured record levels of new business. At the same time, substantial long-term contracts were extended, reflecting the trust our customers place in the quality, reliability and value of our services.

Strategic expansion also contributed to our long-term financial sustainability. Resource Recovery Australia launched new Reviva Reuse Shops in Grafton, Wallan and Seymour, expanded waste management services across the Clarence Valley and introduced the City of Sydney Doorstep Recycling Service. Soft Landing continued to grow its contracted operations in Western Australia, creating new opportunities for future revenue and impact.

Throughout the year, we maintained a disciplined approach to assessing new opportunities. Rigorous due diligence supported major investment decisions, including the business case for Soft Landing’s next-generation recycling technology and the development of Helping Hands’ modular home construction work.

Importantly, we remained committed to fair and sustainable pricing, ensuring that our services remain competitive while covering the true cost of delivering social and environmental impact.

These efforts have strengthened Community Resources’ financial health, ensuring we are well positioned to pursue our strategic ambitions and continue creating meaningful impact.
